Editorial May 2026 - Two hundred years of photography Klaus Herrmann is marking the 200th anniversary of photography: Niépce's "Point de vue du Gras", the oldest surviving photograph in the world, was taken in 1826. He and treasurer Walter Jekat will soon be travelling to Bièvres for the first time, where a meeting with the French sister club Club Niépce-Lumière has also been arranged. With a view to Photo Antiquaria 168 and the annual meeting in August.

Virtual regulars' table for members Report from Bièvres - 13 June 2026, 17:00 After the successful start in March, we are looking forward to the second virtual regulars' table. Klaus Herrmann and Walter Jekat will report on their first visit to the world's largest photo fair in Bièvres: with pictures, video impressions and plenty of room for your questions, tips and experiences.

100 years of Zeiss Ikon - the theme of the annual meeting The Executive Board has chosen a common theme for the 2026 annual meeting: 100 years of Zeiss Ikon. Bring your favourite Zeiss Ikon camera with you: A spontaneous members' exhibition will be set up in the conference hall, and the Executive Board will have a small gift for each participant to mark the anniversary.

A small sensation: The secret of the golden JCII labels has been revealed Anyone who collects Japanese cameras from the post-war period will be familiar with the golden JCII stickers with their enigmatic two-digit number. Our member Dr Stephan Baedeker has now succeeded in eliciting the solution from the JCII Camera Museum in Tokyo.

Report from the collectors' meeting at the Süddeutsches Fotomuseum Bad Wörishofen On 9 May, the guests at the Süddeutsches Fotomuseum experienced a live demonstration of the historical wet plate process. A short video by Nicole Malek saves a lot of words.

Website of the month: Self-timer online Anyone who thinks external self-timers are a marginal phenomenon in the history of photography should get to know autoknips.jimdofree.com: Andreas Sieg documents around 1,200 devices from all over the world, from clockwork classics to air pumps and hourglasses to fuses. A private research project, thorough, well organised and without vanity.
