Editorial June 2026 Klaus Herrmann looks back on an eventful month: the first trip to Bièvres, the reunion with Club Niépce-Lumière and a partnership that will bring Jim McKeown’s life’s work online. With a preview of the annual meeting in Mannheim.

Photo Antiquaria 168 on its way The new issue will reach you towards the end of June. It covers a wide range of topics, from the artisanal beginnings of the 19th century to space photography: a tribute to Ernst Hirsch on his 90th birthday, a biographical search for traces of Jacques Bogopolsky, the ‘Kodak Girl’, the Nikon Photomic FTN as NASA’s on-board camera for the Apollo 15 mission, and much more. For the first time, “Photo Antiquaria Plus” provides access to additional digital content via QR codes. You’ll find an AI-generated audio summary within the article.

Members’ meeting 28–30 August 2026 in Mannheim Under the theme ‘100 Years of Zeiss Ikon’, our annual meeting brings together photographic history, technological culture and socialising. The 3F Museum in Deidesheim will open its library and storage facilities exclusively for CD members, whilst the Technoseum will feature a media exhibition and a working Welte cinema organ, alongside Palatinate wine and a charity auction to raise funds for the club. Please register early, by 19 July at the very latest, with Thomas Wunschel ([email protected]).

At over 300 km/h in Bièvres: Stephan Baedeker, Walter Jekat and Klaus Herrmann report on their trip to the world’s largest photography fair: around 150 open-air stalls in the city park, ranging from bargain bins to five-figure rarities, and the unrivalled hospitality of the Club Niépce-Lumière. Club Daguerre puts McKeown’s Camera Encyclopedia online In Bièvres, the club has reached an agreement with Jim McKeown: his legendary standard work is to be made available as a global online reference. The first results are expected in 2027 at the earliest; all CD members will receive free access.

A look back at the second virtual get-together: 19 participants, seamless technical support and a lively review of Bièvres with photos and videos. Anyone who would like to present a topic themselves is warmly invited to do so – the get-together thrives on its members.

Website of the Month: Nikon’s corporate history online Under ‘Information’, Nikon maintains a remarkable historical archive: the ‘NIKKOR – The Thousand and One Nights’ series by the designers, the ‘Camera Chronicle’ and a comprehensive product chronicle. A genuine history of precision engineering and optical design, written by the people who created it.
