Club Daguerre puts McKeown’s Camera Encyclopedia online

Signing of the agreement between Jim McKeown and the Club Daguerre

We are delighted to announce a collaboration of which we are particularly proud. In Bièvres, Club Daguerre has signed an agreement with Jim McKeown, author of the legendary McKeown’s Price Guide to Antique and Classic Cameras. Together, we will make his life’s work available worldwide as an online reference.

Many of you will simply know the work as ‘the McKeown’. Since its first edition in 1974, it has been regarded as the standard reference work for collectors across twelve editions; the last printed edition from 2005/2006 already listed over 40,000 cameras across some 1,200 pages. The new, massively expanded edition is set to far exceed this figure once again and will be available online in a searchable format for the first time.

Club Daguerre is taking on the technical hosting and operation of the platform, whilst editorial and commercial responsibility remains entirely with Jim McKeown. Given the sheer scale and complexity of the database, this is a long-term project: the first results are not expected until 2027 at the earliest. A work of this significance deserves care rather than haste.

For our members, this brings a very tangible benefit: all members of Club Daguerre will receive free and unrestricted access to the online encyclopaedia. However, as mentioned, this will not be before 2027.

We will keep you updated here on the next steps.
