New in the archive: The website of Dr Gerhard Jehmlich
Our collection of preserved historical websites has gained a significant new addition: the online presentation of Dr Gerhard Jehmlich († 2018), who was Head of Research and Development at VEB Pentacon Dresden for many years.
The site, which we have reconstructed at great expense, combines two main areas of content:
- A compact, easy-to-understand history of Zeiss Ikon AG Dresden
- A detailed technical description of TTL light metering, in the development of which Jehmlich was directly involved
Elaborate reconstruction
As important images from the original Jehmlich website were not preserved in online archives, they were initially considered lost.
In order to save them nevertheless, corresponding graphics from his book "Der VEB Pentacon Dresden" and from a conference volume on the library of the Deutsches Museum in Munich were scanned in again.
Although the reproductions are not perfect, they are historically extremely valuable - and are now once again accessible to the public.

With this addition, we are not only preserving a piece of Dresden camera history, but also the legacy of one of the most important insiders in the history of Pentacon and Zeiss-Ikon.
