Editorial February 2026
The light is still low in February, but it is returning. Anyone travelling with a camera during these weeks will be familiar with the long shadows in the afternoon, the warm grazing light on old beams, motifs that don't exist in summer. It's a time when you pick up your camera more consciously and perhaps also sharpen your view of your own collector's existence. What to preserve, what to rediscover?
Firstly, a word of thanks. The many positive responses we have received in recent weeks - about Photo Antiquaria, our digital offerings, the workshop programme - are a great encouragement to the Board and editorial team. Such feedback confirms that we are on the right track and shows how lively the dialogue in our club is. Thank you very much for that.
I am particularly pleased that we have been able to welcome new members again in recent months. Welcome to Club Daguerre! I hope you feel that you are in good hands with us, and I would like to encourage you to get involved: whether it's with a contribution to the PA, a visit to a regional meeting or simply a chat on the sidelines of a bourse. The club lives from its members, and every new voice enriches it.
It is precisely this personal exchange that we would like to add another form this year. On 7 March 2026 at 3 p.m., a virtual regulars' table for members will take place for the first time as a video conference. It is not intended to be a substitute for our on-site meetings, but rather an additional opportunity to stay in dialogue with each other - open, uncomplicated and accessible to everyone, whether on a computer, tablet or phone.
The editorial team is already working flat out on Photo Antiquaria No. 167 and I can reveal this much: It will once again be a wide-ranging issue that reflects the entire spectrum of our shared passion. Something for everyone, and yet from a single mould - that's how you know and appreciate our PA.
There is also something new to report in this issue. Our workshop programme on wet plate photography has been very well received - the March date is already fully booked. There are still places available in April, but don't delay too long. We have also taken a further step in our digital preservation initiative by archiving an important photo-historical website. Both topics are covered in detail in this newsletter.
In everything we do, one thing remains immovable: The club thrives on personal encounters and sharing your knowledge with others. Take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves - be it a workshop, regional meeting, exchange or a contribution to the PA. And if you have any topics, tips or critical comments, we are always grateful for them.
With best regards
Klaus Herrmann
Chairman of the Club Daguerre e.V.
