Editorial April 2026

Editorial April 2026
April is a restless but beautiful time. Spring is slowly settling in, the days are gaining weight and anyone with a photographic mindset knows that something is happening now. That also applies to our club this year.
I am pleased to be able to look back on a few months in which a lot has noticeably been set in motion. Our workshop "A weekend as a 19th century photographer" has now taken place twice, and both times it was so well received that I can say that the format has proved its worth. Anyone who has been there knows how special it is to immerse yourself completely in working with historical processes. If you haven't been there yet, you shouldn't miss the next opportunity.
Our first virtual members' get-together in March also showed that new meeting formats can find their place in the life of the association. 18 participants, a lively afternoon with Harald Goergens about Vredeborch, good discussions: that's exactly what we had hoped for. And because the response was so positive, we are continuing: the second virtual regulars' table will take place on 13 June at 17:00. Walter Jekat and I will be reporting on our visit to the photo fair in Bièvres, more on this elsewhere in this newsletter.
I was also pleased to hear about the regional meetings. Something is happening. The meetings are well attended, the discussions are lively and you can tell that many members are keen to meet up again. That is not a matter of course and I am grateful for that.
And then there is the look ahead: our annual meeting in August is approaching. I hope you have already made a note of the date. It is the centrepiece of our association's life: the place where names become faces, fleeting contacts become conversations and shared interests become real connections. You can find more information in the current Photo Antiquaria and in the newsletter.
A lot is happening at Club Daguerre. This is thanks to you: as members, as participants, as people who not only collect knowledge but also pass it on. Thank you very much for this.
I wish you a stimulating read and a photographically productive spring.
With best regards
Klaus Herrmann
Chairman of the Club Daguerre e.V.
PS: The latest issue of Photo Antiquaria may have reached you a little late. We apologise for any inconvenience, we had to change printers and mailing partners and there were some teething troubles.
